00:00 - 00:03

in this video I'm revealing 10 Secrets

00:02 - 00:05

behind my tricks like do you know I

00:03 - 00:07

don't shoot in a house but actually a

00:05 - 00:08

set because in a home you can't really

00:07 - 00:09

get away with shooting things I don't

00:08 - 00:12

know like

00:09 - 00:12

[Music]

00:14 - 00:18

this thanks to Google career

00:16 - 00:20

certificates for sponsoring a portion of

00:18 - 00:23

this video and our first secret to kick

00:20 - 00:24

it off is that we don't use green screen

00:23 - 00:29

so I don't know why this is here we're

00:24 - 00:29

going to turn that off all right let's

00:32 - 00:35

so I love pushing our tricks to be as

00:33 - 00:37

fully practical as possible whether that

00:35 - 00:39

means we actually put a real ice Plunge

00:37 - 00:40

in a living room or we have a set built

00:39 - 00:42

on a beach and we transition through the

00:40 - 00:45

wall or one of my favorite examples of

00:42 - 00:47

using no green screen is when I'm at a

00:45 - 00:48

county fair and at one point I stand on

00:47 - 00:50

the chalk drawing and I'm struggling to

00:48 - 00:52

hang on but then I fall into the abyss

00:50 - 00:54

of the drawing and we were able to pull

00:52 - 00:56

that video off with a latch door and a

00:54 - 00:57

hole underneath and then we fly in a

00:56 - 00:59

piece of wood for our actress to stand

00:57 - 01:01

on at the end to prove once again that

00:59 - 01:04

it really is the TR drawing I love when

01:01 - 01:05

it's practical on to the next secret so

01:04 - 01:07

my videos look like it might be just me

01:05 - 01:09

and a friend filming at home but that is

01:07 - 01:11

not true there is actually an entire

01:09 - 01:13

production team behind

01:11 - 01:15

me they're awesome super creative and I

01:13 - 01:17

would trust them with anything oh guys

01:15 - 01:20

speaking of trust

01:17 - 01:22

fall so I did start making these videos

01:20 - 01:24

by myself but over the years I've been

01:22 - 01:25

lucky enough to grow a team and we shoot

01:24 - 01:27

out of this Warehouse in LA and it

01:25 - 01:28

doesn't matter what your role is in the

01:27 - 01:30

business people on the finance team and

01:28 - 01:31

people who are producers we all join

01:30 - 01:33

together on Mondays and we go to the

01:31 - 01:35

writer's room to find the very best

01:33 - 01:36

ideas all right for this next secret

01:35 - 01:37

let's talk about how much these videos

01:36 - 01:40

cost to

01:37 - 01:42

make so we intentionally make my videos

01:40 - 01:44

look DIY or homemade and that's so that

01:42 - 01:46

you believe into the magic a little bit

01:44 - 01:48

more when in fact they're actually

01:46 - 01:51

pretty expensive to pull off we recently

01:48 - 01:52

made a video where it costs like $10,000

01:51 - 01:54

for every finished second of the video

01:52 - 01:56

which is pretty nuts we also just built

01:54 - 01:58

a case for a brand new short film

01:56 - 02:00

stranded part two which I hope you enjoy

01:58 - 02:03

cuz it is also our most expensive ensive

02:00 - 02:04

short film Endeavor ever the next secret

02:03 - 02:06

is I don't make money the way most

02:04 - 02:08

traditional YouTubers do and that's

02:06 - 02:10

because the YouTubers I know make the

02:08 - 02:12

majority of their income from AdSense

02:10 - 02:14

which is when YouTube splits its ad

02:12 - 02:15

Revenue with its creators but my ad

02:14 - 02:17

Revenue has been typically lower because

02:15 - 02:19

the audience is so International so the

02:17 - 02:21

majority of my studio funding has to

02:19 - 02:22

come from things like brand sponsorships

02:21 - 02:24

and I want to thank Google career

02:22 - 02:26

certificates for sponsoring this portion

02:24 - 02:28

of the video now typically a brand would

02:26 - 02:30

provide a creator with what we call

02:28 - 02:32

talking points and that's of why you

02:30 - 02:35

might hear a Creator present their

02:32 - 02:38

sponsorships like this Google career

02:35 - 02:40

certificates help people get in

02:38 - 02:42

in I mean I got to spice it up more than

02:40 - 02:44

that Google career certificates can help

02:42 - 02:46

you learn job ready skills in under 6

02:44 - 02:47

months and they're taught and developed

02:46 - 02:50

by Google

02:47 - 02:51

employees thanks they recently launched

02:50 - 02:53

the Google digital marketing and

02:51 - 02:55

e-commerce certificate which includes

02:53 - 02:57

email

02:55 - 03:00

marketing and designing and running an

02:57 - 03:00

online store

03:03 - 03:07

there are also certificates in the job

03:04 - 03:08

field of it support and that code is

03:07 - 03:12

definitely

03:08 - 03:14

raw you also learn data

03:12 - 03:16

analytics and who doesn't love a good

03:14 - 03:19

chart except that looks a little

03:16 - 03:19

[Music]

03:20 - 03:25

high you want to learn more go to grow.

03:23 - 03:26

gooogle certificates and I want to thank

03:25 - 03:29

Google career certificates for

03:26 - 03:33

sponsoring this portion of the video now

03:29 - 03:33

you probably won't believe this next

03:35 - 03:40

[Music]

03:37 - 03:42

secret now surprisingly I've never

03:40 - 03:44

gotten hurt doing a stunt right now I've

03:42 - 03:46

clocked almost 160 stunts from Falls to

03:44 - 03:48

Dives to wirework and uh this is the

03:46 - 03:50

perfect time to also say do not try any

03:48 - 03:52

of this at home because we work with

03:50 - 03:57

really amazing Hollywood professionals

03:52 - 03:59

who know the ropes but 3 2

03:57 - 04:01

1 one of my favorite stunts was when

03:59 - 04:03

where I got to be shot backwards on

04:01 - 04:05

wires that was pretty fun and recently

04:03 - 04:09

got to do some stunts with dude perfect

04:05 - 04:09

and that's been slowly curing my fear of

04:09 - 04:14

heights I hope to continue doing a lot

04:11 - 04:16

of safe stunt work knock on the good old

04:14 - 04:18

wood so surprisingly working with bigger

04:16 - 04:19

animals is usually easier than working

04:18 - 04:21

with the smaller ones because the

04:19 - 04:24

smaller ones can't usually hit their

04:21 - 04:27

marks or be trained to do that you

04:24 - 04:28

hungry I think he just wants to play

04:27 - 04:30

we've gotten to shoot with a lot of

04:28 - 04:32

different horses as well well as a polar

04:30 - 04:34

bear which surprisingly only took like 7

04:32 - 04:36

minutes to shoot with so usually we make

04:34 - 04:38

mockups with stuffed animals and our

04:36 - 04:39

team just acts it out and what we want

04:38 - 04:41

the animal to do and we send that to the

04:39 - 04:42

animal Wranglers and they'll train them

04:41 - 04:44

for a few days so they can hit their

04:42 - 04:46

marks we go through a ton of hard drive

04:44 - 04:48

space every year because we're making so

04:46 - 04:50

many videos and some of these videos

04:48 - 04:52

straight up fail they don't work like

04:50 - 04:54

this one here and this concept Nate my

04:52 - 04:55

buddy comes up and he's asking for the

04:54 - 04:58

last slice of pizza which I've already

04:55 - 05:00

eaten so I then begin to regurgitate

04:58 - 05:03

that pizza and you could it's just

05:00 - 05:04

really gross it's kind of offputting and

05:03 - 05:06

we shot this video In Reverse which is

05:04 - 05:07

the cool part of the trick but the story

05:06 - 05:10

was kind of lacking and we realized

05:07 - 05:12

after we shot it it just felt weird so

05:10 - 05:13

the lesson here is keep creating cuz not

05:12 - 05:15

all of them are going to work out and

05:13 - 05:17

and that's totally

05:15 - 05:19

fine so how long do these videos take to

05:17 - 05:22

make on average the answer might

05:19 - 05:22

surprise you let me show

05:23 - 05:29

you okay so it doesn't take that long

05:26 - 05:31

actually but uh

05:29 - 05:33

from writer's room all the way to

05:31 - 05:35

posting it takes probably on average two

05:33 - 05:37

months per video to get made but it

05:35 - 05:38

really depends the set build and what

05:37 - 05:40

the trick requires for example there's

05:38 - 05:42

some videos that have taken us 6 months

05:40 - 05:44

9 months to make this one in particular

05:42 - 05:46

I remember it took almost a year to find

05:44 - 05:48

this specific location and we actually

05:46 - 05:50

needed a specific grade of the slope at

05:48 - 05:51

the park you know some of these tricks

05:50 - 05:54

especially when they require really

05:51 - 05:56

specific perspective distances they're

05:54 - 05:56

hard to

05:57 - 06:01

plan okay ow ow so well I have a lot of

06:00 - 06:03

really cool props at the studio

06:01 - 06:05

including this

06:03 - 06:07

giant doughnut here which in the video I

06:05 - 06:10

was a pastry Thief so we had to build

06:07 - 06:12

this giant donut to interact with um

06:10 - 06:15

we've also got like giant mugs like this

06:12 - 06:17

one here that we used in a video with J

06:15 - 06:19

did someone say time for props so most

06:17 - 06:21

our props are made here in house by our

06:19 - 06:23

designers mostly because it requires a

06:21 - 06:25

lot of customization for these tricks to

06:23 - 06:27

work whether it's using a miniature item

06:25 - 06:29

like this Lighthouse here I love playing

06:27 - 06:31

with perspective so it's so fun to get a

06:29 - 06:33

real tactile miniature that you can use

06:31 - 06:35

for the tricks or we'll have to Custom

06:33 - 06:37

Design some sort of Illusion box like

06:35 - 06:39

this one which makes your hand disappear

06:37 - 06:42

but an item magically pop out oh you get

06:39 - 06:44

it it's it's a it's a mirror and the

06:42 - 06:47

coolest prop that I know you've never

06:44 - 06:50

seen before exclusively designed for us

06:47 - 06:50

by Mark Rober

06:51 - 06:55

himself the last secret is I've got

06:53 - 06:58

these super sticky plungers that help me

06:55 - 06:58

climb up walls

07:00 - 07:05

actually it's just a rotating room

07:03 - 07:07

250,000 likes and we'll make another

07:05 - 07:11

Reveal

07:07 - 07:13

video C that's the one maybe tell him to

07:11 - 07:13

Unveiling the Secrets: How Magic Tricks are Masterfully Crafted

In today's video, we delve into the fascinating world of magic tricks and their behind-the-scenes secrets. From the misinterpretation of green screens to the extensive production teams, you'll discover how each illusion is meticulously planned and executed. This article breaks down everything from the unexpected costs of video production to the unique props that make these tricks come alive, demonstrating how the magic really happens.

The Illusion of Simplicity: No Green Screens Allowed

One of the first secrets revealed is that green screens aren’t part of the production. Magic relies on the authenticity of practical effects. Think about it—when you're mesmerized by a trick, the more real it feels, the more believable the illusion becomes. This is why the creator opts for actual sets rather than virtual backgrounds. For example, he showcases a scene where he dramatically falls into a chalk drawing, achieved with a cleverly concealed latch door—a testament to embracing practicality in filmmaking.

Team Magic: The Production Crew Behind the Scenes

While the videos may appear to be shot casually, there’s a dedicated production team that transforms ideas into breathtaking visuals. The creator began solo but rapidly expanded the team, now working out of a warehouse in LA. Team collaboration is essential; each Monday, they brainstorm together, ensuring that every video captures the most innovative concepts. This behind-the-scenes structure is fundamental in creating that “DIY feel” while maintaining a high production value.

The High Cost of Magic: Budgeting for Breakthroughs

You might assume DIY videos are budget-friendly, but the reality is quite the opposite. Each video can cost as much as $10,000 per second in production. This substantial investment reflects the extensive resources and efforts made to captivate viewers. With brand sponsorships, such as that from Google Career Certificates, funding is secured, allowing for exceptional storytelling and magic without the constraints of traditional ad revenue.

The Safety Precaution: Stunts Done Right

Surprisingly, the creator reveals that he has never sustained injuries performing stunts, emphasizing the professionalism of the Hollywood professionals he collaborates with. From wirework to daring falls, each stunt is calculated and practiced to perfection. However, he strongly advises viewers against attempting these tricks at home, ensuring that everyone understands the importance of safety in stunt performance.

The Animal Affection: Larger Friends are Easier

Interestingly, the creator mentions that filming with larger animals tends to be less complicated than with their smaller counterparts. He explains that smaller animals often struggle to follow directions or hit their marks. To ensure success, the production team frequently uses mockups to illustrate desired actions for animal wranglers. This preparation is crucial in executing seamless scenes with animals, like the surprisingly efficient shoot with a polar bear.

Learning from Failure: The Creative Journey

Not every idea leads to a successful video. The creator shares anecdotes about past failed projects, highlighting that even prominent creators face challenges. One failed concept involved regurgitating pizza—a video that was ultimately deemed too odd for viewers. He reflects on these experiences, imparting wisdom that not all videos will resonate, which is a natural part of the creative process.

The Timeline: Crafting Each Illusion

Creating a video is no small feat. On average, it takes about two months from concept development to posting. Some projects, however, have taken as long as a year due to intricate planning and location scouting. These timelines showcase the dedication and effort put forth to create stunning and engaging content for viewers.

Crafting Unique Props for Unique Effects

Props are essential in magic tricks, and the creator utilizes custom-made items, many designed in-house. These include giant donuts and miniature illusions, showcasing the effort that goes into ensuring every detail is perfect. From magic mirrors to perspective-altering props, the carefully crafted elements significantly contribute to the success of the tricks.

Wall Climbing with Sticky Plungers

The final secret unveiled is the use of “super sticky plungers” for climbing walls—though it's revealed that it's more about the rotating room! This quirky innovation adds an element of fun and creativity to their production techniques, continuing to summarize the importance of inventive thinking in the world of illusion.

As we marveled at the craft behind these tricks, one enduring takeaway is the importance of creativity and collaboration. These secrets not only enhance our understanding of magic but inspire us to cherish the unique efforts that go into creating the illusions we love. Stay tuned—there’s always more behind the scenes to explore!
